Brigadier-General Dr Michael Chaminuka Buried Today
Colonel Kabaira’s death comes just days after the passing of retired Brigadier-General Dr Michael Chaminuka, also from a short illness.
The ZANU PF Politburo declared Brig-Gen Chaminuka a national hero last week. President Emmerson Mnangagwa presided over the former serviceman’s burial at the National Heroes Acre.
ZiFM reported that Brig-Gen Chaminuka was the personal staff officer to Vice President General (Rtd) Constantino Chiwenga when he was the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander before his retirement and subsequent redeployment as VP in 2017.
Brig-Gen Chaminuka joined the liberation war in 1977 after fleeing from St John’s Secondary School Chikwaka while in Form 4.
After joining the integrated ZNA post-independence, he rose through the military ranks and served as Desk Officer at the Military Intelligence Directorate, director of staff at the Zimbabwe Staff College, personal staff officer to the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, director of Military Intelligence at Army Headquarters, and director of business development at the Zimbabwe National Defence University.
