ZimLive reported that Mupfumira’s driver, Edmore Mashasha, was retrieving church uniforms from a tailor on Ascot Road when armed men ambushed him. The vehicle, a royal blue Isuzu double cab valued at US$70,000, was taken in the dramatic incident.

Mashasha was blindsided as he waited for the gate to be opened. Men wielding pistols forced him out of the driver’s seat at gunpoint.

The accused persons pointed at the complainant’s head, ordering him to shift from the driver’s seat, and he complied,” police stated.

One of the attackers took control of the Isuzu while another blindfolded Mashasha, tied his hands, and shoved him into the back seat. The vehicle sped off, with the driver helpless. The hijackers later dumped Mashasha at an undisclosed location along Mutoko Road.

Police said Mashasha managed to free himself and flagged down a passerby, who lent him a phone to contact Mupfumira. The senator immediately informed authorities.
