AZAPO calls on govt to tackle crime after murder of its leader in Western Cape

The Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO) is calling on the government to employ drastic measures to deal with rampant crime in the country.

This follows the murder of AZAPO’s Western Cape leader, Mzimkhulu Nojozi, who was gunned down in what the party claims to be related to his refusal to pay a protection fee to one of the criminal gangs targeting businesses in the province.

The party is calling on the government to deploy the army to assist in fighting crime and for gun ownership to be restricted.

“The spike in crime has been on the steady rise with at least 85 violent murders accounted for per day throughout the country. AZAPO decries the fact that the minister of police has given up and has lost the battle against crime. It is a serious concern that notwithstanding the introduction of more boots and cops, the crime statistics keep rising,” said AZAPO Spokesperson Jabu Rakwena.
