Xavi Hernandez will stay on as Barcelona manager, the club’s president Joan Laporta told a news conference on Thursday, after reversing a previous decision to resign at the end of this season.
“We know that he made some statements in the middle of the season, but today we have the good news that he is staying and he has conveyed to me the enthusiasm and confidence he has in the project,” Laporta said.
And with this enthusiasm, confidence and ambition from the first moment, it was clear that it was good news for Barca.
“Adding stability is a maxim to succeed looking at my experience as president. I’ve always been committed to continuity. There is another reason: Xavi is an undisputed Culer. We share a feeling, and see that every time we analyze a situation that we have a coach who always thinks about the best for Barca. It was clear to us.”
Taking the floor himself, Xavi stressed that he is “very much a Culer”.
“I’m a club man and the most important thing is to think about the club. We met with the president yesterday, [and] I put the position at his disposal. But I sense a confidence of the president, [Sporting Director] Deco, [La Masia director] Bojan, of the entire board
