Bergville man’s case of allegedly killing 5 family members adjourned

The case against a KwaZulu-Natal man accused of stabbing five of his relatives has been adjourned to Wednesday.

Twenty-eight-year-old Mlawuli Khoza appeared before the Bergville Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

He is facing five counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder linked to Saturday night’s mass killing.

The matter was adjourned to allow the accused to apply for legal aid.

Khoza appeared in a courtroom with community members and political and traditional leaders.

Some were singing and chanting outside while proceedings were under way.

The accused looked very relaxed as he appeared in the dock, wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and denim jeans.

He told the court that he intended to apply for bail and the prosecution indicated that it would oppose the application.
