Bezbets in Hot Water After Failing to Pay Punter’s US$5,400 Winnings
In a shocking case of corporate fraud, a local online betting company, Bezbets, has found itself in hot water after refusing to pay out a client’s rightful winnings.
Bezbets Fined $500 for Defrauding Punter of $5,400 Winnings
It is in the States case that on October 26, Prosper Dembedza, a regular punter, placed a bet on Bezbets’ online platform with a stake of $394. The platform indicated a potential win of $5,400, should the bet succeed. As luck would have it, he won a staggering US$5,400.
After winning the bet, Dembedza was met with resistance from Bezbet. The company reneged on its promise and offer him a mere $1,800 instead. Dissatisfied, Dembedza reported the matter, leading to the company’s prosecution.
Bezbets was found guilty when they appeared before magistrate Simon Kandiero. He fined the company $500 for defrauding Dembedza.

Judgment Day: Bezbets Ordered to Pay Up
To recover his winnings, Dembedza took Bezbets to the Harare Civil Court. In a scathing ruling, Magistrate Sharon Mashavira ordered the betting company to settle the full $5,400 owed to Dembedza.
“Having perused documents filed on record, default judgement be and is hereby granted in default as follows, an order for payment of the sum of US$5 400 being damages for breach of contract, payable in local currency at the prevailing rate on date of payment,” Mashavira stated in her ruling.
Bezbets’ Assets Attached
To enforce the court’s ruling, the sheriff has attached various assets from Bezbets, including televisions, a boardroom set, chairs, a printer, and a refrigerator.
This property attachment is intended to secure the payment of the owed winnings. Additionally, Bezbets has been ordered to pay interest on the amount at a rate of 5% per annum, starting from October 2023 until the date of full payment.
