Bulawayo Man Tragically Killed After Touching Meat On A Braai Stand

A Bulawayo man was killed by his friend after he touched meat on a braai stand. The seemingly innocent gesture led to the tragic death of the man.

The Bulawayo police department has recently confirmed the arrest of Tatenda Chida, a 26-year-old local resident, in connection with the tragic death of Sikhanyiso Bruce Dube, aged 30, from the Pumula North area. The fatal altercation, which took place on October 22, 2024, reportedly began as a minor disagreement but soon escalated, ending in a devastating outcome.

Details of the Incident

Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the deputy police spokesperson for Bulawayo, explained that the incident unfolded while Dube and Chida were with friends at a local butchery, grilling meat. The situation reportedly turned violent after Dube accidentally made contact with Chida’s food on the braai stand. This seemingly harmless gesture allegedly provoked Chida, who reacted aggressively.

Eyewitnesses reported that Chida physically assaulted Dube, first by delivering a powerful kick to his back, followed by a strike to his face. Although friends helped Dube leave the scene, his condition deteriorated, and he was later discovered lifeless two days afterwards near Pumula High School.

The tragic discovery was made by a passerby who initially mistook Dube for someone who had fallen asleep in a drunken state. However, upon closer inspection, the passerby realized that Dube was unresponsive and notified the authorities. Medical professionals conducted an autopsy, which revealed severe head injuries and brain trauma, confirming that his death was indeed a homicide.
