Cape Town man arrested for allegedly voting twice

A man has appeared in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Thursday for electoral fraud.

It appears that he managed to vote twice – once at the Jan van Riebeeck Primary School in Gardens and then at the Jan van Riebeeck High School just up the road.

Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile said that he was one of ten arrests that had been made during this electoral period.

“The person that was arrested is 64-years-old for voting twice. He has appeared in court and has been released on bail.”

Meanwhile, arrests have also been made in Caledon, where suspects broke into an IEC office and stole equipment.

The scanner and projector that were taken have since been recovered.

Patekile said that many of the arrests related to malicious damages, assault, and intimidation.
