The Independent Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested a Cape Town police officer for allegedly raping a 6-year-old boy.
The 44-year-old is stationed at the Forensic Science Laboratory in Plattekloof.
It’s alleged the officer assaulted the child last weekend while the victim and his mother were visiting.
The accused and the victim are neighbours.
IPID’s Phaladi Shuping: “They were drinking alcohol and unfortunately the mother fell asleep on the couch and that’s the time it’s alleged that the police officer raped the 6-year-old boy, who reported the incident to one of the community members the following day and the incident was reported to IPID, who effected the arrest of the police officer.”
Shuping said the accused appeared in court on Thursday, and the matter was postponed to 1 July for a formal bail application.
