The City of Cape Town is calling on residents to keep a safe distance from Cape fur seals.
The Western Cape Provincial Veterinary Services this week reported a case of rabies.
A Cape fur seal tested positive for rabies along the Big Bay coast and later died.
The metro urges residents along the Cape Peninsula coastline to remain vigilant and ensure that their pets don’t get into close contact with Cape fur seals.
According to the municipality, the first cases were reported in December in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape.
The City of Cape Town said that an investigation to the extent of its prevalence in Cape Town coastal areas was ongoing.
