The case against two men linked to a foiled cash-in-transit heist in Khayelitsha has been postponed to 28 August for a formal bail application.
Twenty-four-year-old Sihle Mabhongo and 46-year-old Simphiwe Mzanywa appeared in court on Thursday.
Initially, five men were arrested during a police operation in Town Two, for allegedly planning to rob a cash van in the township.
Eight other suspects were killed in the shootout with police.
However, the case had been struck off the roll because the accused were not charged within 48 hours after being arrested, as required by the law.
Hawks spokesperson, Siyabulela Vukubi: “Both accused are remanded in custody. Mzanywa’s parole has been revoked and Mabhongo has a pending case at Khayelitsha court for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. The duo was arrested on the 12th of August 2024 and was subsequently charged for the possession of unlicensed firearms, the possession of explosives, and attempted murder.”
