CCC Politician Wilson Makanyaire’s Village Set On Fire

In a shocking incident recently, a prominent member of the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Wilson Makanyaire’s village, was set on fire in Hurungwe West, Ward 25. There are claims circulating that this act of arson is politically motivated and linked to the ruling party.

According to pictures shared on social media, the fire destroyed houses and huts. It is yet to be made public if any lives were lost in the fire.

Rumours are circulating that the fires are in line with the Jameson Timba and Friends case in the courts. Makanyaire has been at the forefront of CCC-led protests in Karoi, advocating for the release of Jameson Timba and the group known as the Avondale 78. These demonstrations have been a significant part of the local political landscape.

Jameson Timba and the Avondale 78 are currently detained, and their custody extends until 24 July 2024. Justice Lucie-Anne Chipo Mungwari will preside over a crucial bail hearing at the High Court tomorrow, Thursday, 11 July 2024, at 9 AM.
