Cancer Diagnosis and Health Update

Chief Hwenje, born Admire Sanyanga Sibanda, was diagnosed with lymphoma, a type of blood cancer affecting the immune system. Initial reports had indicated that the 37-year-old artist, known for his energetic stage performances and signature dreadlocks, had retreated to his rural home in Shanyura village to focus on healing away from the public eye.

A Shadow of His Former Self

Meanwhile, Chief Hwenje told The Sunday Mailrevealing that the lymphoma has spread throughout his body. Doctors have recommended surgery to remove some of the cancerous growths before they progress further. President Mnangagwa’s praise singer described experiencing severe pain, with attacks so intense that he struggles to move or speak.

Once a vibrant performer, Chief Hwenje now faces significant challenges, including weight loss and the exhausting effects of his illness. His deteriorating condition has led to the cancellation of several shows, and for the few he has fulfilled, he has relied heavily on pain medication.

“It hurts to see fans calling for more when my body cannot deliver. Some promoters and fans think I’m big-headed, but they don’t understand what I’m going through. Sometimes, I have to take extra medication just to stay on stage,”  Chief Hwenje said.
