Joacham Chivayo (33), a Zimbabwean national, and Ayanda Brian Gungwa (20), a South African, were arrested on Wednesday at around 1:15 PM while allegedly attempting to sell six bars of gold illegally.

The suspects now face charges of illegal possession of gold and violating the Precious Metals Act (Act 37 of 2005). Their case, registered at Brakpan Police Station, saw them appear in court on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, where they were remanded in custody.

Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the origin of the gold and identify any additional syndicates involved in the illicit trade.

Wicknell Chivayo’s Brother?

The arrests have sparked speculation, particularly regarding the connection between Joacham Chivayo and flamboyant Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo. Some social media users claim Joacham is related to Wicknell, with a few even sharing alleged evidence to support their claims.

Others took aim at Ayanda Gungwa, suggesting he may have fraudulently acquired South African documents. Allegations have emerged that his real name is Naison Chivayo and that he previously studied at ZRP (Zimbabwe Republic Police).

The internet was quick to weigh in on the case. Here’s what some had to say:
