City of Cape Town appoints new contractor to complete R41 million Sea Point Promenade upgrades

The City of Cape Town says a new contractor has been appointed to continue its R41 million Sea Point upgrades project.

The project came to a halt due to slow progress by a contractor hired by the city.

Work began in May last year for the construction and restoration of the beachfront areas and was initially set to be completed next month.

The upgrades include the refurbishment of the Granger Bay parking area, the construction of a rock revetment, a new Fort Road play park, and additional walkways.

The Metro said the project also entailed the planting of coastal vegetation with the installation of interpretive signage to give heritage information.

The City of Cape Town said the funds to continue the upgrades remained intact.

According to the municipality, the work is expected to be completed by December this year.
