City of Cape Town offers help to homeless people as more inclement weather approaches WC

The City of Cape Town is offering assistance to people living on the streets as more inclement weather approaches the Western Cape this week.

Last week, services at shelters for the homeless across Cape Town were stretched after strong winds and heavy rains lashed the city.

After more than 4,000 people were left homeless in the storm, the MMC for Community Services, Patricia van der Ross, said the city was providing services at its safe spaces.

“The city also recently dispersed aid to various shelters to help them navigate the winter period.”

With another cold front set to make landfall on Thursday, Van der Ross said the city would continue trying to assist the homeless.

“The city’s Street People Program Unit also continues their daily outreach operations offering assistance to persons living on the street, including referrals to shelters, social or health services, and reintegration with families and communities.”
