City of Cape Town says R16 million in damages recorded during recent storms

The City of Cape Town said it has recorded damage worth over R16 million as a result of the recent storms.

This comes as more inclement weather continues are forecast to hit the Mother City and surrounding areas.

The metro said teams have attended to over 19,000 service calls in the past two weeks across the city.

It said Mitchells Plain, Muizenberg, Wynberg, and Gugulethu recorded the highest incidents of damage to electricity infrastructure.

City’s MMC for Energy, Xanthea Limberg, said, “Work continues as our dedicated teams remain on the ground to attend to urgent repairs and critical maintenance, as we expect more impacts to be felt with the heavy rain predicted.”
