DJ Melzi says he’s not IEC commissioner Nomsa Masuku’s son

Famous Mzansi DJ, and music producer, DJ Melzi says he doesn’t know Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) commissioner Nomsa Masuku and denies he is her son.

Rumours went viral that the DJ, real name Tumelo Mphai, is Masuku’s son after he posted a picture next to a Mercedes-Benz SUV and social media users suggested the La Melza hitmaker is the son of the IEC commissioner who has been accused of fraud.

The 62-year-old commissioner was arrested last week on Friday and appeared in the Johannesburg specialised commercial crimes court on charges of theft, fraud and money laundering involving R1.2m. She was granted bail of R20,000.

“Recent rumours and speculation about my relationship with Masuku are unfounded and untrue. I would like to clarify I have no affiliation or relationship with Masuku and we are not involved in any way. My parents are private and I appeal to all not to involve them on social media platforms,” DJ Melzi posted.

He told the publication the malicious rumours hurt him and his parents.

“I don’t know the woman. I only got to see her picture on X. I’ve never met or spoken to her. My parents are private people and such things hurt them.”

Last month, the publication reported DJ Melzi is apparently in a romantic relationship with Skeem Saam star Lethabo Mekoa.
