Key Details On Why DJ Ribhe Was Released On Bail

On Wednesday, High Court Judge Justice Regis Dembure granted DJ Ribhe bail after he hearing that the accuser changed statements. Initially, the 14-year-old Form 2 student did not report any abuse in her first recorded statement. However, she later changed her statement and alleged her drink was spiked and she was raped.

After this information was revealed, the State which had initially opposed bail reversed its position. Justice Dembure commended DJ Ribhe for offering an alternative residence, making him a more suitable candidate for bail.

Alleged Charges That Landed DJ Ribhe Behind Bars

DJ Ribhe was arrested on November 6 and had been held in remand since. He and his accuser live in the same neighborhood, a factor that initially complicated his bail application.

His legal team, led by Advocate Sylvester Hashiti and instructed by Rubaya and Chatambudza Legal Practitioners, successfully argued for his release.

The State alleges that DJ Ribhe drugged the 14-year-old by spiking her drink before raping her at his home. Before the alleged crime happened, the girl had met him at his residence before they went to Mashwede Village with other unnamed people.

According to the State, while at Mashwede, DJ Ribhe allegedly manipulated the minor into drinking an unknown substance and smoking shisha. Later that night, he reportedly took her back to his home, where he allegedly raped her. When the girl regained consciousness, she reportedly realised that she had been raped.

Investigations also revealed that the girl had missed school for two days leading up to the incident.
