The provincial health department has acquired an R60-million state-of-the-art accelerator machine.
It allows doctors to target specific cancerous cells without damaging healthy ones.
MEC Ntandokazi Capa unveiled the equipment at Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha.
The Eastern Cape health department says Livingstone Hospital alone has a treatment backlog of over 800 cancer patients.
