EFF wants to revive President Ramaphosa’s impeachment proceedings during 7th parliamentary term

The EFF wants President Cyril Ramaphosa’s impeachment proceedings to be the first order of business when the 7th Parliament gets down to business.

The party wasted no time in making its feelings known, saying the Phala Phala matter should be revived in the new term.

The call was made just before the re-election of Ramaphosa as president under a Government of National Unity (GNU).

EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu said that the party has already written to the newly-appointed Speaker Thoko Didiza, calling for the reinstatement of the impeachment proceedings against Ramaphosa.

This despite the 6th Parliament rejecting a motion recommending an inquiry into the president over the theft of dollars from the president’s Phala Phala farm.

“The immediate motion that you must attend to should be the impeachment process of Mr Cyril Ramaphosa for the case which was established to have a prima facie basis by a panel which was led by a former chief justice.”

Didiza told the party that the matter would be looked into despite it already being concluded.

“This matter will need to be deliberated upon as you know that there was a process undertaken by the sixth administration and that matter was concluded.”

The EFF is likely to be supported by other parties who rejected the GNU once Parliament establishes its committees in the new term.
