Eskom technicians continue facing threats while disconnecting illegal connections around Cape Town

Eskom technicians continue to face threats from community members when trying to disconnect illegal connections around Cape Town.

The utility recently dispatched a team to Endlovini, in Khayelitsha, to restore power to more than 2,000 households following a trip caused by overloading on the local grid.

During the restoration, the team also disconnected illegal connections, which were partly to blame for the outage.

Eskom said it is working around the clock to restore power to the remaining 81 households in Endlovini. However, it fears that those who have been removed from the grid due to illegal connections will reconnect.

The utility said such acts, not only compromise electricity supply but could ultimately lead to another outage, which could last for days.

The power supplier has further urged community leaders to assist in protecting the infrastructure from vandals and illegal connections.
