The eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality has urged residents to exercise caution following a yellow level 4 weather warning for the province.
Forecasters have highlighted a high probability of rainfall expected to persist until 11 pm on Monday.
Heavy rainfall is expected over KwaZulu-Natal including the eThekwini region.
The city is asking residents to take the necessary precautions and motorists are warned to be extra vigilant on the road.
“With a yellow level 4 meaning the impact that might bring about these types of conditions will be significant and the likelihood of it is low, but the impact – should it happen – will be significant,” said weather forecaster Lehlogonolo Thobela.
Meanwhile, the eThekwini metro said emergency teams were on high alert to monitor the situation.
“The city advises residents to exercise extreme caution, to stay indoors if possible and to avoid travelling unless necessary,” said the municipal spokesperson – Gugu Sisilana.
Persistent rainfall has battered parts of the country including the Eastern Cape where seven people have lost their lives.
