A mourning community in Evaton is calling for justice following the tragic deaths of three young siblings from the Mokhatla family.
In a heartbreaking sequence of events, Tshepiso, Moeketsi, and Rethabile fell ill last week shortly after arriving at school before being rushed to a clinic, where they were declared dead.
Over 150 people gathered at the family home on Sunday to pay their final respects to the trio.
The tragedy, which came as a shock to educators and pupils at Evaton Primary School, the local community, and the family of the victims, is under police investigation.
Although not many updates have been provided, the community has bemoaned the police’s failure to heed calls to investigate those closest to the dead children.
Echoing the sentiments shared by the community, acting Emfuleni Local Municipality mayor, Jonas Radebe, said it was important to jail those responsible.
“Police need to answer, is there anything tangible that has been found that can link anyone to this gruesome passing of these young people?”
With their children now laid to rest, the family must contend with the burning question of what caused the deaths.
