Former Mashonaland West State Minister Reuben Marumahoko has recently been arrested for defrauding the Agricultural Rural Development Authority (ARDA) of agricultural inputs valued at US$37,950.
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is spearheading the investigation into this case, which has captured significant media attention.
Based on these claims, he was provided with substantial farming inputs, including 2.5 metric tonnes of maize seed, 1,300 bags of Compound D fertilizer, and various agricultural chemicals.

Details of the Alleged Misuse of Inputs
The charges indicate that, despite receiving resources sufficient for a 200-hectare maize project, Marumahoko only planted 46 hectares. The prosecution alleges that he sold or otherwise disposed of the remaining inputs, causing ARDA to incur a substantial financial loss.
The total value of the unused inputs allegedly diverted stands at nearly US$38,000, a considerable sum given the importance of such resources for agricultural sustainability in Zimbabwe.

Legal Proceedings and Upcoming Court Date
Marumahoko is scheduled to appear before the Chinhoyi Magistrates Court on November 12, 2024. This hearing marks the beginning of a legal process that could lead to severe consequences if the allegations are proven true. Observers are watching closely to see if this case signals the government’s and ZACC’s increased commitment to combat corruption, especially within high-ranking political circles.
