Eyewitnesses narrated the horror of seeing passengers burn to death in a road accident along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road yesterday.
A South African-registered Ford Ranger collided head-on with a haulage truck at the 223km peg along the Masvingo-Beitbridge Road at Bubi, 65 km north of Beitbridge, at around 8 am. The Chronicle reported that 7 people perished in the accident.
Eyewitnesses Narrate As Passengers Burn To Death At The Masvingo-Beitbridge Road Accident Scene
An eyewitness at the scene shared a video of the raging accident scene. The South African-registered Ford Ranger and the goods truck were furiously blazing, with dark fumes blackening the clear sunny skies.
Witnesses were daunted by the raging inferno and stood afar as they watched the two vehicles flaring. They were terrified of the violent flames and could only hear the last agonising screams of the helpless victims whose lives were stuck in the fire.

The eyewitness who captured the accident scene gravely recounted in the video:
“Pakaipa pakaipa pakaipa pakaipa. Rori yarovana nemota vanhu vari kutsvira mukati memota izvezvi kutaura kwatiri kuita. Rori iri ku bvira iyi. Iyo mota iyo vanhu vari mukati diki iyo vanhu vari mukati. Vari kungotsva varimo.”
ZRP Confirms The Horror Masvingo-Beitbridge Accident That Charred Five People Alive
The officer commanding police in Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Melusi Ncube, told The Chronicle the details of the accident. He said the haulage truck had two trailers carrying tobacco:
“The driver of the Ford Ranger attempted to overtake another truck and encroached into the opposite lane, leading to a head-on collision with the oncoming truck.
“The impact of the collision was so severe that the Ford Ranger caught fire, trapping the driver and four passengers inside the vehicle. All five were burnt beyond recognition.”
The force of the collision impact threw two other passengers from the car, who landed on the tarmac and died instantly. The haulage truck’s driver escaped uninjured as the truck landed on its side.
