Fastjet Zimbabwe has expanded its domestic flight services in response to increasing passenger demand. The low-cost carrier has doubled its weekend flights between Harare and Bulawayo, now offering twice-daily services on Saturdays and Sundays.
During the recent Econet Victoria Falls Marathon, the airline operated four daily flights to and from Victoria Falls. Chief Commercial Officer Vivian Ruwuya reported fully booked flights and numerous last-minute enquiries.
“We continue to respond to the demand we see, particularly during events like the marathon,” Ruwuya said. “Victoria Falls is a crucial tourist hub for us.”
Fastjet currently operates double daily flights between Victoria Falls and Johannesburg, and daily services to Kruger in South Africa. The airline uses a fleet of five 50-seater ERJ145 Embraer aircraft.
Looking ahead, Fastjet aims to expand into the SADC and East African markets, leveraging Zimbabwe’s participation in the Single African Aviation Market protocol. The airline also maintains inter-airline agreements with Qatar Airways and Emirates.
While the Harare-Kariba route remains suspended due to seasonal demand, Fastjet is open to future opportunities in other local tourism destinations.
