Father of fake doctor who swindled victims millions wanted for defrauding government employees! Gauteng police are on the lookout for Thabo Isaac Puseletso Chele, the father of notorious fake doctor, Kingsley Leeto Chele.
The 60-year-old is sought in connection with fraud and corruption cases reported in Lyttelton and Pretoria Central in October 2023. Thabo is accused of deceiving and defrauding several individuals, specifically targeting female government employees.
Allegations Against Thabo Chele
According to provincial police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, Thabo allegedly manipulated female government employees to defraud them of their life savings.
The details surrounding how he operated and the exact amount he reportedly swindled remain part of an ongoing investigation.
Captain Sibeko urged the public to assist in locating Thabo, stressing that any information about his whereabouts could be crucial to the case.
“Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the investigating officer, Lieutenant Colonel Masoding Simon Motolla, on 082 715 9583 or 071 675 6421, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” Captain Sibeko announced, appealing for assistance from community members who might know of Thabo’s location.
Son, Kingsley Chele, Exposed as Fake Doctor
The news of Thabo Chele’s alleged fraud comes amid his son’s legal troubles. Kingsley Leeto Chele, who posed as a medical doctor and used the aliases “Dr. Kingsley Chele” and “Dr. KJ Ncube,” was arrested on October 2, 2023.
Kingsley’s fraudulent activities reportedly spanned Johannesburg and Pretoria, where he managed to deceive and defraud victims of over R1 million by posing as a healthcare professional.
Kingsley lived in Ruimsig, Roodepoort, where police uncovered medical paraphernalia, including scrubs, coats, and sick notes bearing logos from the Gauteng Department of Health.
Authorities allege that he set up a Facebook page where he provided medical advice under the guise of being a legitimate doctor. His fake credentials and professional attire lent credibility to his deceit, allowing him to trick numerous individuals into trusting him with their health and finances.
Fraudulent Activity Uncovered
Investigations revealed that Kingsley’s fraudulent practice involved administering unqualified medical advice and likely impacted the well-being of many of his victims.
Police discovered that Kingsley used social media platforms to attract unsuspecting individuals, leading them to believe he was a genuine healthcare provider. After cases of fraud were reported in Sunnyside and Klipgat in June 2023, police finally apprehended Kingsley in October.
Upon his arrest, Kingsley appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, where he was denied bail. His arrest marked a significant step in addressing a scheme that had cost his victims hundreds of thousands in financial losses, aside from potentially risking their health.
Seizure of Assets and a Daring Escape
Following Kingsley’s arrest, authorities took action to seize assets they believed he acquired through his fraudulent activities. The investigating officer collaborated with officials from the National Prosecuting Authority’s Asset Forfeiture Unit to confiscate a 2023 VW Golf GTI from Kingsley’s home, a luxury vehicle allegedly purchased using funds obtained through his scams.
However, as police cataloged the household items for asset forfeiture, Kingsley managed to escape custody.
The details surrounding his escape remain unclear, but authorities launched a manhunt to track him down. After a week on the run, Kingsley was re-arrested near Vosloorus.
The incident has raised questions about security protocols and highlighted the determination of law enforcement to apprehend and bring such fraudsters to justice.
Public Appeal and Continuing Investigation
With Thabo Chele still at large and Kingsley now back in custody, the authorities continue to investigate both men’s fraudulent activities.
The public has been asked to cooperate with law enforcement to help locate Thabo and prevent further incidents. Gauteng law enforcement officers are determined to tackle fraud and corruption, recognizing the toll such schemes take on the community.
In addressing the situation, Captain Sibeko emphasized the importance of vigilance and community support in curbing similar scams.
The Chele family saga serves as a warning about the impact of deceitful practices on vulnerable individuals. Community members are encouraged to report any suspicious activities to authorities, helping to build safer, fraud-free neighborhoods.
