Two individuals employed as rank marshals, Saul Ncube and Thembani Ncube , appeared in the Western Commonage Court earlier this week, where they were charged with attempted murder.
The charges stem from a violent altercation that took place on July 7 at Nkulumane Complex Rank in Bulawayo. The victim of the attack, identified as Andrew Sibanda (39), suffered severe injuries as a result of the assault.
According to the prosecutor, the incident escalated over a disagreement concerning the allocation of loading bays at the busy rank. It is alleged that the two defendants assaulted Sibanda with both a chair and an Okapi knife, leaving him with severe injuries to his right hand and abdomen.

Prosecutor Argues Intent to Kill
Ms. Manyika presented the case with an emphasis on the gravity of the attack. She stated that the weapons used and the force with which they were employed suggest a deliberate attempt to end Sibanda’s life. In her argument, she noted that the severity of the wounds demonstrated either an intent to kill or a reckless disregard for the victim’s life.
The incident reportedly took place at around 11:00 AM, following a heated argument over the use of loading bays. This issue often leads to disputes among marshals working at the Nkulumane Complex Rank. The victim’s injuries were severe enough that medical attention was required, further highlighting the brutal nature of the attack.

The defendants remain in custody as the trial is ongoing, and they await their judgement. The violent nature of the crime, as it was committed in a public space during the day, is being put into consideration.
