Fire destroys 30 shacks & two injured in Cape Town

Over 30 shacks in Overcome Heights near Muizenberg have been gutted by fire, leaving more than 100 displaced on Sunday.

One person, who sustained burn wounds, was treated at the scene while another was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

City officials say the blaze has since been extinguished.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Community leader Mandy Marr has called on the public to assist with aid.

“We are on site of the terrible fire that happened this morning. Gift of the givers has been here already and we have alerted the disaster management. The fire guys are still busy with their work. We [would] just like to appeal for any donations…you can take it to Living Hope in Kommetjie Road.”
