Former Deputy Minister Of Information Brian Matonga Arrested Again

Bright Matonga, who previously served as the Deputy Minister of Information, has been arrested for theft again after being released on bail last month for stealing farming equipment.

Matonga, who was initially freed on a US$600 bail by Chegutu Magistrate Ms Evelyn Mashawakure, is now facing fresh accusations involving the theft of irrigation pipes.

Reasons Behind Brian Matonga’s Arrest

According to his legal representative, Innocent Muchini of Muchini Attorneys, Matonga was apprehended early this morning in connection with these new charges.Muchini revealed the information to The Herald, but the specifics of the accusations remain vague as of now. He went to Chegutu to obtain more information on his client’s case. He intends to disclose further details once he has a clearer understanding of the situation.

The initial arrest of Matonga on June 25, 2024, was tied to allegations of stealing farming equipment valued at US$500,000. According to the case file, Matonga took farming machinery that belonged to Talbec Investments Pvt Ltd.

The company had ventured into business with Matonga’s farm, Chigwell farm, and he took the equipment without the former’s consent. He had made a court appearance last Friday and was scheduled to return to court on August 22, 2024, after being granted bail. However , these new allegations may get the former minister thrown in jail again amid his recent charge.

Brian Matonga’s Previous Run-In With The Law

Matonga is notoriously known for his run-ins with the law. He has been arrested before in a fraud case. When he was the Deputy Minister of Information, Matonga defrauded a foreigner out of US$10,000 in a bogus deal involving Zimbabwean trillion-dollar notes. He was arrested, but later, the courts let him go.
