Tafireyi’s recent triumph came at the Hurwitz Farming Production Auction, where he secured the prized Boran Stud bull, Lot 10 Cyclone, for an astounding US$444,000 (R8 million).

Lot 10 Cyclone, known for his superior beef production qualities, had caught Tafireyi’s eye months prior. Determined to acquire the bull “at any cost,” Tafireyi engaged in a fierce bidding war with his neighbour, Rogers Sithole of Black Ox Farming, ultimately winning the beast.

The Boran breed, originating from East Africa, specifically the Borana plateau in southern Ethiopia, has gained prominence for its remarkable qualities in beef production. Boran bulls are medium-sized, typically ranging from 114 cm to 147 cm tall. They weigh approximately 500 kg to 850 kg.

Borans are well-suited to harsh climates, including regions with limited resources. Their adaptability ensures survival even in challenging conditions. Breeders value Boran Stud bulls for their genetic contributions to beef quality and herd improvement. Their resilience and efficient feed conversion make them sought-after in commercial cattle farming.

Tafireyi started breeding cattle in 2021 and founded Sinyo Boran & Ankole, located in Hwedza, Mashonaland East.

Paying The Highest Price For President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Ankole Cow

But Tafireyi’s story doesn’t start or end at the Hurwitz Farming Production Auction. In March 2024, he made headlines again at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Ntaba Nyoni cattle auction.

Tafireyi paid the highest price of US$97,300 (R1.8 million) for an Ankole cow named Kethiwe NANK 13-04 (3-in-1) and her heifer calf, ICT Kovu. This acquisition took place at Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm in the Bela-Bela area.
