Gruesome discovery: Body of 42-year-old man found floating in the dam! The body of a 42-year-old man was found floating in a dam near Meadows Road, Free State, on Wednesday morning.
Bloemspruit police are currently investigating the incident, which has raised concerns among local residents. Authorities were alerted after a Toyota Corolla was seen abandoned by the dam for several days.
Police Respond to Abandoned Vehicle Alert
The discovery was made after Bloemspruit police received information about an abandoned vehicle early Wednesday. According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli, a Toyota Corolla, identifiable by its Free State registration plates, was noticed near the dam on Friday with its doors unlocked.
“A patrol vehicle was dispatched to the scene and found a blue Toyota Corolla with Free State registration numbers and doors unlocked,” said Kareli. Police immediately began to investigate the area around the dam to locate any possible occupants. During their search, they found a body floating in the water, later confirmed to be that of the man reported missing by his family.
Search and Recovery Efforts
Upon locating the body, the police summoned the Bloemfontein Diving Unit to assist in the recovery. The man’s relatives reported they had last seen him driving the Corolla on Friday, and his absence raised concerns. Police are conducting an inquest into the incident, focusing on potential explanations for his disappearance and subsequent death.
While police are not revealing specific details until further investigation, they are urging anyone who may have seen the vehicle or noticed anything unusual in the area between Friday and Wednesday morning to come forward with information.
