Harare Man Tormented By Ghosts Exposes Grave Digging Scandal
According to a statement released by the ZRP on Thursday evening, Tinashe Chiguma approached the police, claiming he was being haunted by disturbing visions of the dead who were asking him about their relatives whose corpses he had dumped after digging up their graves. His confession led to the arrests of his employer, Edwin Muronzi, and co-workers, Moses Gwanya and Kudakwashe Humure.
Investigations revealed a sinister operation led by Edwin Muronzi, who hired grave diggers and paid them between US$15 and US$20 per grave. Under his instructions, the team exhumed graves to clear space for new burials. During this process, skeletal remains were placed in empty cement bags, wrapped in burial cloths, and discarded in a trench or nearby dam. Artefacts buried with the bodies were also dumped.
Once the graves were cleared and cleaned, they were resold to unsuspecting clients for new burials.
Forensic Investigation Underway
The ZRP has launched a detailed investigation, involving forensic experts, to identify the tampered graves and trace the exhumed bodies. Efforts are also underway to locate the relatives of the deceased and to map out the full extent of the dumping sites.
Police are still searching for additional suspects identified only as Kevy, Shumba, and Dread. The ZRP has appealed to the public for any information that could lead to their arrest.
