Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber said that the mother of former Miss SA contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, had a right to travel outside the country despite an ongoing fraud and corruption case against her.
ActionSA has sought clarity from Home Affairs on how Adetshina’s mother was allowed to travel to Nigeria while she faces allegations of identity theft.
The mother travelled to Nigeria last weekend to watch the Miss Universe Nigeria beauty pageant, where her daughter emerged as a winner.
Last month, Schreiber announced that the department had found prima facie evidence of fraud committed by Adetshina’s mother after launching a probe into her citizenship.
The minister said the matter was now with the Hawks.
“Every person in this country is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Until there’s an arrest warrant or a court order that prevents someone from leaving the country, we can’t stand up at a podium and decide who gets to enter or leave the country. So, those processes will need to be concluded,” said Schreiber.
