The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has released the names of the six people who tragically lost their lives in a road traffic accident on the Bulawayo-Plumtree Road.
The fatal crash, which also left seven others injured, occurred on 11 August 2024, at around 8 AM, at the 81-kilometre peg along the road.
Details of the Accident
According to a police statement, the accident involved a Nissan Caravan kombi carrying 19 church congregants. The vehicle veered off the road and overturned, eventually landing back on its wheels. The crash was reportedly caused by the deflation of both the right front and rear tyres.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Plumtree Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations. The injured were also admitted to the same hospital for treatment.
Names of the Deceased Released
The victims have been identified by their next of kin as:
- Chamunorwa Jejeje (32): The driver of the kombi, from Emganwini, Bulawayo.
- Nokulunga Ncube (43): A female from Nketa 9, Bulawayo.
- Salathiselu Zikhali Ndlovu (60): A male from Nkulumane, Bulawayo.
- Marry Jongwe (62): A female from Emganwini, Bulawayo.
- Essley Mbewe (58): A female from Nketa 9, Bulawayo.
- Privilege Simango (23): A female from Rangemore, Bulawayo.
Harare Crash: Two Dead, Two Injured on Sam Nujoma Street
In an unrelated incident, the police have also confirmed another fatal road traffic accident that occurred on 10 August 2024, at around 10 AM along Sam Nujoma Street in Harare. A Toyota Hilux double cab, with three passengers on board, struck four pedestrians who were crossing the road opposite Banc ABC.
Tragically, two of the pedestrians died at the scene, while the other two were injured and taken to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for treatment. The bodies of the deceased were also transferred to Parirenyatwa for post-mortem examinations.
Seke Road Tragedy: Three Kombis Collide in Fatal Accident
In another separate incident this morning, a fatal accident occurred on Seke Road at the intersection with St. Patrick’s, involving three commuter omnibuses.
The three kombis reportedly collided with each other. While details of the accident remain unclear at this time, pictures and videos of the scene have already begun circulating on social media.
