The bus driver was travelling with other church members when the incident occurred.
The driver allegedly lost control of the bus and ended up swerving off the road into a field full of maize. After veering into the field, the bus ploughed into the small maize plants, pressing down the crops and creating a path with its massive wheels.
After moving for some distance, the vehicle screeched to a halt in the maize field without overturning.
Members of the Johane Masowe church disembarked from the bus to check what was wrong with it. In pictures circulating on social media, the congregants, clad in their white regalia, were surrounding the heavy vehicle.
The Big Purchase
Controversial tenderpreneur Wicknell Chivayo showcased his immense wealth weeks ago by purchasing ten buses for various branches of the Johane Masowe Chishanu church. The former convict, who became a millionaire through government contracts, also announced his plans to donate US$1 million to a charity of his choice.
Chivayo explained that these acts of generosity were part of his decision to forgo luxury purchases for his birthday in November.
He revealed that the first three 61-seater buses, procured from Faramatsi Motors at a total cost of US$420,000, had already been delivered. He further stated that an additional seven buses, valued at US$980,000, were on order and would soon be distributed to recognised branches of the church nationwide.
