President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially appointed John Mushayavanhu as the new Governor of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ). This appointment, as announced by the Minister of Finance, Economic Development, and Investment Promotion, Mthuli Ncube, is effective for a period of five years, starting from March 28, 2024, and concluding on March 27, 2029.
Mushayavanhu’s tenure as the Governor of the RBZ has commenced a month earlier than initially anticipated. This early assumption of office is due to the impending conclusion of his predecessor, John Mangudya’s term, which was scheduled to end on April 30.
