Klerksdorp man arrested for heavily punching girlfriend

A 30-year-old man in Klerksdorp was arrested by olice in connection with the murder of his girlfriend on March 31 2024. The suspect and his friends were allegedly gathering at a friend’s residence in Brakspruit, an area outside of Klerksdorp, when a fight started between the suspect and the victim.

It is alleged that the victim first assaulted the suspect, after which the suspect, the boyfriend of the victim, started beating the victim with his fists until she fell on the floor.

It was reported that the victim was left lying on the floor. After the owner of the residence where the friends had previously gathered, returned home he found the victim still lying on the floor. He tried to wake her up but she was not moving. The owner then alerted their friends and the suspect of the situation after which the police and an ambulance were called. The victim was declared deceased on the scene.

The police arrested the suspect and charged him with murder. He is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate’s Court today, April 2. The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded police for their quick reaction in arresting the suspect. Lt. Gen. Kwena urged the community to work their differences out in a calm way and to avoid creating violent situations.
