Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona condemned the driver’s actions, calling them “reckless” and severely breaching road safety protocols. In a statement released Thursday evening, Minister Mhona stated,

“The accident serves as a sobering reminder for transport operators, drivers, and the general public to strictly observe road rules and exercise caution.”

Government’s Response and Commitment to Road Safety

Minister Mhona regretted the tragic incident, affirming that the driver’s decision to proceed at the intersection despite red lights led to “grave consequences.” He announced that the driver now faces formal charges of culpable homicide.

In addition to addressing the legal implications, Minister Mhona extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries. He emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing road safety and warned that strict measures would be enforced to ensure public safety on the country’s roads.
