Kuwadzana Kombi Accident Latest: Driver’s Identity Revealed as He Faces Long Prison Sentence
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPA) has shared the latest update on the culpable homicide case involving a kombi driver who had a fatal accident along the Harare-Bulawayo road at Kuwadzana turn-off on the last day of October. The tragedy claimed seven lives and left scores injured.

Kuwadzana Kombi Accident Latest: NPA Reveals Driver’s Details
The NPA also revealed previously unknown details about the kombi driver and where he stays as well as details of the homicide charges he is currently facing.
In a statement on Friday, the NPA said Wellington Ngona (42) from Kuwadzana 1, Harare who is employed as a commuter omnibus, popularly known as a kombi, driver was dragged before the Mbare Magistrates’ Court facing culpable homicide charges.
Details of The Tragic Accident
It is the State’s case that on the 31st of October 2024, Ngona was behind the wheel of a Toyota Hiace (AGB 0734) when he collided with a petrol tanker (AFJ 7074 and trailer AFJ 6125) driven by Basil Murwira at the intersection of Harare-Bulawayo Road and First Street in Kuwadzana, near a spot locals call “pamagetsi.”
The accident occurred at around 5:30 a.m. and resulted in the deaths of seven passengers aboard the kombi. Eight others were critically injured and rushed to Sally Mugabe and Parirenyatwa Hospitals for treatment.

Culpable Homicide Trial Details
Ngona appeared before the Mbare Magistrates’ Court facing culpable homicide charges. The State alleges that his negligence caused the fatal crash, citing the following failings:
- Failing to keep a proper lookout on the road
- Turning into the path of oncoming traffic
- Failing to stop or act reasonably to prevent the accident.
The matter was postponed to the 12th of December 2024 for trial.
