KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police are probing the suicide of one of their own members, who was allegedly behind a hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 26-year-old woman on Saturday.
The police sergeant was allegedly behind the wheel of a state vehicle when he ran over the victim on the Phoenix highway, north of Durban.
Police claim the cop then tried to cover up his crime by reporting the vehicle stolen.
Police spokesperson Robert Netshuinda said, “Police received reports that the 48-year-old police sergeant who was implicated in the hit-and-run incident had taken his own life. Circumstances surrounding the apparent suicide incident form part of investigations.”
