KZN police recover 300 illegal firearms in July

KwaZulu-Natal police say they have recovered more than 300 illegal firearms during police operations last month alone.

This comes as police continue to work on addressing crime in the province, most of which have been committed with illegal firearms.

Officials say most of these firearms were confiscated from suspects during arrests while others were recovered from suspects who were killed.

Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said the recovery includes high-calibre firearms.

“Suspects armed with illegal firearms have been so brazen in their attempts to take out police officers. The recovered firearms included 260 pistols, 19 rifles, and 18 homemade firearms. Almost 5,000 rounds of ammunition of various calibres of firearms were also recovered.”
