KZN Transport Dept commits to assisting with funeral arrangements for Mandeni accident victims

The Department of Transport in KwaZulu-Natal has committed to assisting with the funeral arrangements of the victims of the Mandeni accident.

Eight people, most of them school children, died when their vehicle crashed into a truck on the N2 highway on the north coast.

Officials from the department visited the families of the affected victims and vowed to provide assistance.

The families of the Mandeni accident victims are still reeling from the pain of losing their loved ones.

The Ncwane family, which was still mourning the passing of their father, who died in December 2023, lost three children in Friday morning’s accident.

Transport MEC Siboniso Duma was among the officials who visited the families.

“We have agreed with that family that we will be working in preparation for the memorial and the funeral as well. We also spoke to the councilor to bring all relevant stakeholders to the table.”

The accident was followed by the death of four other people when a bus traveling from Eastern Cape to Durban overturned on the N2 highway near Port Shepstone.

Duma has urged drivers to be careful on the roads to avoid these incidents.
