Man accused of killing scientist wife abandons bail bid

The man accused of killing his scientist wife has abandoned his bail application at the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Cecil Kekana was arrested two weeks ago after Dorcas Lekganyane was found dead in their home in Bramley with multiple stab wounds.

A month before her murder, 32-year-old Lekganyane was recognized by the Mail & Guardian as one of the 200 influential young South Africans for 2024.

Kekana allegedly consumed pills after the incident and was admitted to hospital.

Following his release from hospital, Kekana made his first appearance at the Alexandra Magistrates Court last week on a charge of murder and defeating the ends of justice last week.

On Tuesday, he made yet another appearance, this time for a formal bail application.

Kekana’s attorney told the court that his client will abandon the application without giving any reasons

The matter returns to court on 20 September.
