Man Arrested For Attempted Murder Of Ex-Girlfriend After She Refused His Advances

A man has been arrested and is appearing in court after he attempted to murder his ex-girlfriend after she refused his advances to be intimate with him.

Richard Skwambula, a 43-year-old resident of Dramwin farm in Sealous, appeared before the Chegutu Magistrates’ Court on charges of attempted murder.

Details of the Incident that led to the court case

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on the night of May 10, 2024, around 10:00 PM. Skwambula allegedly visited his ex-girlfriend at her home. An argument ensued between the two over a sum of US$17. The situation escalated when Skwambula requested to engage in intimate relations, which the complainant refused.

Angered by the refusal, Skwambula threatened to set the complainant’s bedroom hut on fire. He then left the premises but returned the next day to carry out his threat. Skwambula is accused of igniting the complainant’s hut while she was asleep inside. Fortunately, she managed to escape the blaze without any injuries.

The court has remanded Skwambula in custody, with the next hearing scheduled for June 3, 2024.
