A 37-year-old man from Zhombe is currently recovering from severe injuries after being stoned over a mining dispute. The incident occurred due to a dispute over a gold mine and involved a vicious attack with stones and Columbian knives, leaving the man unconscious.
The attack took place at St. Andrew’s Business Centre in Zhombe, located under Chief Gwesela’s jurisdiction, on Friday, May 24, 2024, around 5:00 PM.
Police Confirmation and Appeal
Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, stating that law enforcement is actively searching for the suspects. He appealed to the public for any information that could assist in capturing the perpetrators.
“I can confirm we have an incident where a man was severely assaulted over a gold mine dispute by four men in Zhombe. We humbly request for assistance from the public to locate the suspects who are sought to face attempted murder charges,” Mahoko stated.
Victim and Suspects Identified
The victim has been identified as Tichaona Chiremba, aged 37. The suspects involved in the attack are named Maibongo Ngwalati, Jerry Kwenya, Nathan Mdudusi, and Mdudusi Kwenya. They all hail from Lwisani village under Chief Gwesela’s area in Zhombe.
According to allegations, the four suspects approached Chiremba at St. Andrew’s Business Centre, accusing him of a prior altercation with them related to gold mining activities. Initially, they assaulted him with stones, causing him to flee. However, they pursued him for approximately 100 meters from the business centre, where they caught up and repeatedly stabbed him with Columbian knives.

Injuries and Medical Treatment
Chiremba sustained multiple severe stab wounds and is currently being treated at Zhombe Mission Hospital. His condition is being closely monitored as he recovers from the brutal assault.
Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects to come forward to assist in the investigation.
