Man dies after falling through roof at shopping centre

The old Pick n Pay centre in the central business district is currently on lockdown after a man fell through the roof of the centre near the Walter Sisulu Street entrance of the sparsely occupied centre.

The publication can confirm that the man has sadly passed away.

Emergency services are still at the scene, awaiting the arrival of the police.

Sources told the publication that repairs were being conducted on the centre’s roof, involving fire curtains and leakages.

Eyewitnesses say he may have been a member of a maintenance team working on the ceiling before plummeting through a skylight at the centre.

At this stage, neither his identity, nor his affiliation with the centre, has been released.
