A man from Shurugwi is now facing murder charges for murdering his three-month-old stepdaughter. Reports indicate that he gave the infant acid, commonly used in gold extraction, which led to her passing shortly after ingestion.
The Incident That Led To Masunda’s Arrest
The incident allegedly occurred last Friday. According to the reports, Masunda was apprehended in Chegutu on Tuesday after fleeing from Shurugwi immediately following the child’s death.
Masunda was reportedly employed at Nash 1 Mine in Shurugwi and lived with his partner, Muchaneta Zindera, along with her infant daughter, Tatenda Junior Hwacha. Allegations state that on the day in question, Masunda returned home carrying a 200ml Ranger spirit cooler bottle filled with acid, which he discreetly stored within the residence.

Masunda’s Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Following a search, Masunda was apprehended in Chegutu on Tuesday and brought back to Shurugwi to face the murder charges in court. Prosecutor Tafadzwa Guzete presented the case against him, laying out the details of the alleged crime and the subsequent actions taken by Masunda.
