His wife, Plaxedes Mushayavanhu, 32, who remarried, says the child is in the care of her parents:

I got married to another man. I heard that Luckson was released from jail and visited my parents. He wanted the child, but he had a misunderstanding with my parents. The child is under my parents, and I do not think they are against giving him access to the child.

Marowa’s in-laws have refused him the chance to see his child, who was two years old at the time of his arrest. He also claims the child has been out of school for an extended period.

My in-laws have been denying me access to my child, and the child has not been attending school. My wife took everything, returned to her parents, and was given to marriage to another man.

Marowa insists his priority is the child’s education and access to both parents:

Ndangandaiwana nguvai mari iyi, inyadzi here dzekuti vakaroodza mudzimai wangu? I do not have a grudge about her marriage since it has been a long time, but my issue is about my child’s right to education as well as access to both parents.

Battle Over The Child’s Custody

Plaxedes’ mother, Esther Masunga, says Marowa must pay his lobola and reimburse them for supporting his child during his imprisonment.

Luckson came here, and we demanded our lobola as well as money for looking after his family while he was in prison. Mwana wake ndichamukwidza bhazi aende zvake agare naye zvachose nekuti haatendi. If his bitterness is about his wife who got married, he must know his boundaries. He is abusing me, and I am not happy at all.

Marowa alleges his relatives were stoned when they tried to take the child.
